Rambo is my friend

Rmbo

I’m driving back to my village home today after about a
month away.  I enjoy the drive-good
roads, a/c, tunes and podcasts on my mp3 player.

Never know what I’m going to find when I get home,
though.  Last time my bathroom was
absolutely overrun by big brown ants.
Rambo and I spent an hour killing them.
Nice to have Rambo around when you need him.

Big-N-Bitty Buddies

Mom and friend
Meet Mom, the lovely lady on the left.  She's chatting with one of her neighbors.

Now, everyone say hello to Sue, my very first guest blogger!  I've blogged about her before except I called her Kim instead of Sue.  Blame melting brain syndrome, a common ailment here in the tropics.

Anyway, Sue, Kelly and Kathy organize themselves and others to hang out with my mom and her neighbors once a month.  There's a photo album to the left of some of their visits.  I'd love it if you'd join them, and so would they!

Sue nailed it when she said that it's
"an awesome opportunity for our children (and adults) to
share some of their energy with those that love to give attention."

Here's Sue:

Victory Center, an assisted living community in Joliet, has a resident community that we visit monthly. We have played games ranging from play dough and puzzles to checkers, bingo, and Jenga. We have sung Karaoke and danced the polka, as well as just sit and visit in the parlor. It has been a great success and an awesome opportunity for our children (and adults) to share some of their energy with those that love to give attention.

Our next visit will be on a Saturday soon, TBA.......
We will be having a "New Year Party".
Bring: You or your child's favorite craft idea, game, book to read, paper
to draw on, or anything else that you would like. We'd love to have you!

Please eat lunch before coming. Food and refreshments are not allowed from
the outside because of dietary restrictions. Water and coffee are
available.

Any questions, please e-mail or call. The number is below.

Thanks,
Sue Bresett

Scruffy needs a tummy tuck.

Tmytck Kate Gosselin got a tummy tuck, and she only had sextuplets.  Scruffy had septuplets, so she really deserves a tummy tuck.  You can't tell too well from this picture, taken on my bed, but the poor thing has a really droopy belly that isn't bouncing back.

Now, picture me, sleeping in this bed, under this mosquito net, with my friend Scruffy.

I feel something light and feathery brush across my feet, just as the cat is also bounding across my feet.  I frantically swat at whatever horrible thing is crawling on me, a horrible thing that was not stopped by my mosquito net.

I turn on the light.  It's not midnight yet, so there's still electricity.  Good.

Scruffy and I peer over the edge of the bed, looking, looking.  Dumb cat.  It's her job to catch and eat horrible things, or at least keep them out of my bed.

We look and look for about 10 minutes, but there's nothing there.

I was almost too grossed out to laugh about me and my cat hanging our heads over the side of the bed with exactly the same expression on our faces.

I run through the list of things that it could have been.  It was really light and feathery.  It can't have been any of the really horrible things with tiny clawed paws, so maybe it was one of those house centipedes that I saw once in my bathroom.  Ick.

And then I realize that what I'd felt was Scruffy jumping across my ankles, with her poor tummy hanging down so far that it brushed against them.

So, I turned out the light and went back to sleep.  Dumb cat was still hanging over the side of the bed looking for something last I saw of her.

BlogTag

Eddie has tagged me in a game of blog tag.  I'm supposed to list five ways blogging has affected me, so here goes.

1. I don't have salmonella.  (Look in the comments.)

2. I now know the best way of bleaching apples-and know that I am not alone worrying about it-see the comments again!

3. This not alone thing is huge.  I'm meeting other people who serve overseas through their blogs, become a part of a community of people who get my life.

4. People at home are getting my life too-even more increasing the idea that I'm not alone.

5. This is the best one-it's about facebook, not blogging, though, so I have now broken the rules of blog tag.  Oh no!

Anyway, a friend of a friend knows the guy who came to mmmBELLYmay land earlier this month to do advance work for a visit from Mercy Ships.  Their tagline if you google them is "Ocean vessels providing health care to the poor in port areas around the world."

Now, mmmBELLYmay country is way up in the north, not at all in a port area.  So, when Mercy Ships come with their fully equipped operating rooms and great volunteer surgeons, we often don't hear about it until it's too late.  Not so for their 2009 visit!  All thanks to connections made through Facebook.  Way cool.

I'm not tagging anyone, because no one ever wants to play blog tag with me, and I feel lame when I tag them and they don't run.  But if I were going to tag someone, it would be Dennis, Kelly, and Lorraine.  But I'm not tagging anyone.  So there.

Here are the rules.

1. Write about 5 specific ways blogging has affected you, either positively or negatively.

2. Link back to the person who tagged you.

3. Link back to L.L. Barkat
who created the meme. (He is not so much interested in generating
links, but rather in tracking the meme so she can perhaps do a summary
post later on that looks at patterns and interesting discoveries.)

4. Tag a few friends or five, or none at all

5. Post these rules — or just have fun breaking them.
