A few days ago running to get out of the rain I slipped on some mud and  skinned my knee. It hurt!  Especially when I put iodine on it. That’s what I had in my travel first aid kit.  Whining in my head about it stinging,  I felt like I was five years old again.  Of course, adult bodies ache a little more than five year old bodies after they go crashing to the ground, but there’s no major damage, just one skinned knee.  I would say that I bruised my dignity, but someone that causes collisions in church doesn’t have much dignity left to bruise!

Church is complicated here, at least if you’re me.  There’s clapping, singing, and swaying, all with these cool multiple rhythms that are completely beyond me.  Usually I can manage two out of three, either singing and swaying or clapping and swaying.  All three together will take more practice.

One Sunday I was doing pretty well.  I could see a woman that was clapping nice and loudly, so I could follow her clap and her sway.  I even sang a few words.  Feeling pretty good about myself, I went up when it was my turn in the offering.  That entails a kind of shuffling dance/walk and singing at the same time.  I had it down!  So, up the aisle I went.  Until it was time to put my offering in the basket.  I caused a 7 woman fender bender as people bumped into me. 

Was I just paranoid the next week when I noticed a BIG space between me and the woman behind me when it was time for the offering?  I’ll get it right one of these days…

I have some socks like this at home in the village, for wearing on the airplane.  But, here I am, in the city, no socks, only flip flops, and it’s gotten cold.  I’m freezing, the tip of my nose is freezing, my toes are freezing…it’s all the way down to 70 degrees, and I don’t have any warm clothes with me!  Brrrr!

The village where I live has gotten its very first billboard!  Exciting, and pretty random that a place with no running water and little electricity would have a billboard…

It’s a cool one though-part of a campaign to encourage parents to give their daughters an education.  It says "Every girl in school."
